How we started....
In 2017, Director Coach Teddy Spikes had a vision to start an all girls travel basketball team. We had some very talented young ladies in Charlotte County who were currently in the 6th grade, and one player in the 5th grade. So, he put together a team of eight 6th graders and one 5th grader. While they did not have a winning season that first year, the bonds that were created amongst the players, coaches, parents and supporters was what Coach Teddy had visioned for this new program in our area.
In 2018, our Miracle family grew to three (3) teams and even through the original team had a few new faces, the core of the team was still in tact. That team went on to win the US Amateur State Championship for 7th grade girls! Talk about a complete turnaround from the previous season.
In 2019, we added a High School team to our list of teams, while still competing around the state of Florida.
2021 was a phenomenal year for our Miracle program. Our basketball teams grew to offering teams from 5th grade through 11th grade. Our 10th/11th grade high school team competed for the first time in a Live NCAA event and traveled to Louisville, KY. We also began our Miracle Volleyball program this year which is still going strong.
In 2023, the eight 6th graders that were from the original Miracle Basketball team graduated high school! We are so proud of all of them regardless of whether they chose to continue to play basketball throughout their high school time. Director Teddy's philosophy is building relationships with these young ladies that we may be able to help guide them and offer assistance for whatever way their lives may take them. The last of the original team will be graduating in May 2024.
We are so thankful for the opportunity that parents have given our Miracle organization to have a hand in nurturing and guiding these young ladies on and off the court. Our program has included not only girls from Charlotte County, but all throughout Southwest Florida, Tampa area, and Central Florida. We look forward to continued growth of this program and adding more sports in the future.
